Monaco are facing a battle to hold onto all of
their stars this summer.
The principality side have taken Ligue 1 and
the Champions League by storm this season,
outscoring anybody that got in their way and
defeating Manchester City by scoring six goals
against them across two legs .
Blues chief executive Txiki Begiristain
attended both legs of their European semi-final
with Juventus, fuelling speculation about the
players he could be looking at as Pep Guardiola
looks to strengthen for next season.
Juventus full-backs Alex Sandro and Dani Alves
impressed again while there was plenty of
talent in the Monaco team, with teenage winger
Kylian Mbappe grabbing lots of attention.
Looking back on the match, the BT Sport panel
were discussing the clubs that would be
interested in Leonardo Jardim’s players and
former England boss Glenn Hoddle picked out
22-year-old left-back Benjamin Mendy as the
one that would be perfect for City.
“I think you’d have to watch Mendy a lot of
times defensively,” he said. “Going forward, he’s outstanding. If you want
that in your team and you’re not worried about
defence, he’s made for Man City.”
Guardiola has expressed his wish to sign a
centre-back this summer despite the
renaissance of skipper Vincent Kompany.
“I think when he is in that form there is no
doubt,” said the City manager. “But we have to
cover our backs.
“We cannot give all our confidence he will be
fit because of what we have experienced the
last few years. We have to have back ups if
something happens.” Source: Manchester Evening News
